*More about Jamie
Where are you originally from?
What class do you teach at Pure?
How long have you been practicing yoga?
What first attracted you to yoga?
The fact that every time I walked into a class I was able to completely focus on the present. I was able to slow down and not think about anything but what I was doing at that moment. This in turn gave me freedom in other areas of my life.
What brought you to teaching?
I always knew that I wanted to teach. Being exposed to Pure led me to their teacher training where I became officially certified in 2010. The thing I love most about teaching is seeing my students transform and knowing that I am a part of that transformation.
Who was your first yoga teacher and how did she inspire you?
My first yoga teacher was my modern dance teacher in college- Loretta Livingston. She was a yogi and incorporated a lot of yoga philosophy and postures into her dance classes. I realize that now more than I did then. She taught her students that dancing was not just about movement; it was about conscious movement.
What motivates you to practice today?
Everything! But mostly my students. I am so inspired by their commitment to their practice and love to see their transformations.
What did you do before becoming a yoga instructor?
I was a dancer for most of my life and then when I moved to NYC where I started working in sales for a wholesale jewelry company.
What other hobbies and interests do you have outside of yoga?
Live music! I love to go to concerts. I also love to hang with my 2 chihuahuas, Midas and Mojito.
If you weren't a yoga teacher, what would you be?
I would probably be working with animals in some way.
What do you love about Pure Yoga?
The variety! I am a big believer in non-attachment especially when it comes to teachers. Although, I have my teachers that I practice with on a regular basis, Pure allows me to learn something new every time I step on my mat. There are always amazing workshops from AMAZING teachers-all under one roof!
