Eric Elven

Eric completed Level I & II teacher trainings with Baron Baptiste and has studied extensively with master Baptiste instructor Lisa Black. He also completed a 200 hour certification program with 8 Limbs Yoga Centers in Seattle. As a teacher, Eric strives to create a spacious, calm, safe yet challenging environment for students to explore the postures. His classes combine concise explanations, supportive hands-on adjustments, an energizing flow and deep holds. Discovering yoga during one of life's "rough patches", Eric found it to be a potent catalyst for my personal healing. Eric switched to teaching yoga full-time after spending 16 years as a Registered Nurse.

Seattle, Washington

What classes do you teach at Pure?

Hot Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, all levels

How long have you been practicing yoga?

I began meditation practice in 2002 and asana practice shortly after.

What brought you to yoga?

A friend introduced me to yoga and I was immediately hooked. I discovered that yoga is much more than just an alternative to running, cycling, or weightlifting.

What brought you to teaching?

After being a Registered Nurse for 16 years, I was looking to change to a career that emphasized preventative medicine as opposed to what I term "disease combat."

Who was your first yoga teacher and how did she inspire you?

My first yoga teacher was Lisa Black. She had an enthusiasm for life that was inspired by her practice. I wanted the same for myself.

What motivates you to practice today?

I practice for my well-being and peace of mind.

Before becoming a yoga teacher, what did you do?

I was a Registered Nurse for over 16 years. I primarily worked in Oncology and ICU.

Aside from yoga, what other hobbies or interests do you have?

I love to read and travel. I also enjoy the arts. I am a singer-songwriter and guitarist.

What do you love about Pure Yoga?

I love the overall community and environment at Pure.
