Jon Witt

Jon Witt came to yoga after growing up on a different kind of mat. After wrestling competitively for 10 years, he turned to yoga for therapy and relief. A dedicated Bikram practice followed and he soon completed his first teacher training with Bikram Choudhury in 2002. Jon spent 5 years in Hong Kong as one of Pure Yoga's first instructors. He has continued to dedicate time to his yoga education, studying with teachers such as Dharma Mittra, Anthony Carlisi, Baron Baptiste, Doug Keller, Kristyan Stjerne, Patrick Creelman, Tim Miller and most recently, spent 6 months with Yogacharya V. Venkatesha of Mysore, India.

How long have you been teaching?

Who was your first yoga teacher and how did he/she inspire you?
A friend of mine, Mike Striegal never physically taught me, but was inspirational through his experience with yoga. I shortly began practicing in San Diego where I was living at the time.
How long have you been practicing yoga?
14 years
What first attracted you to yoga?
Yoga is immensely healing, and after aligning myself from a few practices, my back was feeling as though I had never experienced chronic pain. It was then that I felt internal peace.
What motivates you to practice today?
My past, present and future students keep me motivated and my practice current.
How would you describe your personal practice?
Classical Hatha
What did you do before becoming a yoga teacher?
I was a web analyst for a software company.
What do you love about teaching?
I love being a part of my students' self-development, and giving them the tools to heal.
Aside from yoga, what other hobbies or interests do you have?
I enjoying riding my bike through the streets of New York, and travelling the world with my beautiful wife.
What do you love about Pure Yoga?
I love the diversity of styles Pure has to offer as well as the large and growing community. |
