*More about Jackie
Where are you originally from?
What class do you teach at Pure?
How long have you been practicing yoga?
What first attracted you to yoga?
A friend took me to a class and convinced me that yoga was the next new phase in fitness. After trying it, I stuck with it and found yoga to be a wonderful way to connect the heart, mind and body.
What do you love about teaching?
I have been teaching group exercise classes since 1983 so it is a part of who I am. I love sharing what I have learned and being challenged to constantly keep up with the latest information and redinements of the practice. In addition to becoming a yoga instructor, I became a massage therapist to augment my yoga studies to focus on theraputic needs of my students and help alleviate their pain.
Who was your first yoga teacher and how did she inspire you?
I studied yoga with many teachers before finding my first true teacher, John Friend. His loving support, vast knowledge of biomechanics and theraputics of the body, and his amazing community have helped me find this amazing path to Anusara Yoga.
What motivates you to practice today?
Getting stronger with age amazes and motivates me. I always thought people are weaker and do less with age, but practicing yoga has done the opposite for me.
What did you do before becoming a yoga instructor?
I was an actress, singer and fitness trainer/instructor.
What other hobbies and interests do you have outside of yoga?
I sing and play guitar, and I also love to cook for my family and friends.
If you weren't a yoga teacher, what would you be?
I would want to be a counselor or life coach.
What do you love about Pure Yoga?
I love the wonderful students and teachers. Pure offers a wide variety of practices and students are able to choose what truly works for them.
