Phillip Askew

Phillip Askew
Phillip began his practice when he was 18 years old. He completed a 500 hour training at Ishta Yoga and soon after, was initiated into the arts of partner yoga therapeutics. Philip is very much inspired by the teachings of Nevine Michaan and Richard Freeman, though he draws from a multitude of teachers, texts, and techniques.

Emphasizing awareness through precision, meditation in motion, and the art of conscious embodiment, Phillip's classes are a forum for the collective psychic experience and pranic exchange. Imbued with metaphor and meaning, they challenge the body, engage the mind and quicken the spirit.

More about Philip

Where are you originally from?
I am originally from Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

How long have you been practicing yoga?
I started practicing just over 12 years ago, but I've been teaching for 9 of them.

What first attracted / what brought you to yoga?
I was originally attracted to the Mystical Experience in Yoga, the idea that one can open the doors of perception and alter one's inner conscious landscape to reveal the true nature of reality & existence.

What motivates you to practice today?
Today, I practice for my own health & wellness- physical, emotional, psychological, & spiritual. I practice to stay connected to my body, to my heart, & to my source. I practice to affect the change in myself that I'd like to see in the world, and to elevate myself & those around me.

What do you love about Pure?
I love the inclusive, nonjudgmental atmosphere & philosophy of Pure Yoga. I love that Pure recognizes & promotes all lineage without preference. That, under the same roof, we have Ashtanga, Iyengar, Anusara, Vinyasa, Forrest, etc; We herald the benefits of each, without dogma or exclusion. That, to me, is where yoga is going.
