  • Meditation: Yoga Nidra
  • Yoga Nidra (Psychic sleeping) – Yoga Nidra is the art of conscious relaxation. It is a powerful practice where the body and mind are liberated from their tensions and anxiety. One learns how to put the body into sleep while the mind remains fully awake. The brain wave drops into the theta state where deep levels of healing takes place on the emotional, mental, and physical planes.

  • Pure Zen Flow

  • November 2017 | Pure Yoga 4 Week Intensive | Kriya Yoga: Part 1 - Tapas - Self-Discipline
  • Kriya Yoga: Part 1 - Tapas - Self-Discipline

Take your yoga practice to the next level with this four week series that looks not only at the physical practice of yoga, but dives deeply into the rich historical and philosophical tradition of the practice. Using Patanjali’s system of Kriya Yoga laid out in the Yoga Sutras, Jimmy will help students explore the use of Tapas, (Self-Discipline) Svadhyaya, (Self Study/The Study of Sacred Texts) and Ishvara Pranidhana (Devotion/ Surrender to the Higher Self) as a way to develop a meditation practice, explore the wisdom texts of the Yoga Tradition, and totally change the way you view your practice on the mat. The process of Kriya Yoga is designed to add to your level of practice so that your daily yoga practice can become more skillful than the negative thought patterns of the mind and take down the walls we have built around the heart. Through Kriya Yoga the yogi will deepen their knowledge of classical yogic texts, experience first hand the benefits of meditation, and engage in practices meant to open the heart to the beauty of our lives. This workshop includes vigorous asana, lecture, mantra meditation, and a deeply restful savasana.

    ABOUT JIMMY BURGIO

Jimmy began studying yoga in depth in 2001 while training as a dancer in Virginia Beach and Norfolk, Virginia. His first introduction to yoga was through his grandmother who practiced yoga in the 60s and 70s and taught him how to meditate. Later on, as he continued his studies as a dancer, many of his teachers would use yoga as an integral part of their warm ups. As his practice grew and he took an interest in Eastern Philosophy, he felt compelled to share the joy yoga had brought him in his own life and sought out Lisa Asha Rapp at My Yoga Spirit in Norfolk and quickly enrolled in the school's teacher training program at the age of 15.

Jimmy's training background includes workshops with Sharon Gannon and David Life, Dharma Mittra, Krishna Das, Jules Febre, Manorma, Dana Flynn and Dhanurdhara Swami. He has also attended several workshops held at Satchidananda Ashram in Yogaville, Virginia.
Jimmy has lead retreats, workshops, kirtans, and has directed several teacher training programs in the New York City area, Virginia, and the Midwest.

Jimmy firmly believes in the purity and potency of the original yogic philosophy and tries to stay true to that in both his classes and his everyday life. His love of teaching is evident in the enthusiastic manner in which he leads his classes.

He is a founding member of Embodied Philosophy, an online yoga philosophy resource dedicating to bringing the wisdom of yoga to life in the everyday.
